I hope to see you at this upcoming group exhibition, Art in Gadsden. My husband, David, and I founded this exhibition in 1989 and since that time we have seen the arts in this community grow way beyond our initial contribution as Zoe Golloway, Grace Robinson, Museum Shop manager Rebecca Reep, and volunteers too many to mention continue this mission forward. I am very proud that two of my works, Rising Tide and Diatomorama will exhibit at the Center. For more information, please follow this link.

Purple Rain: A Tribute, is a cut paper assemblage created by Beth Appleton. It will exhibit as part of the group show, Music as Muse, opening at City Hall in Tallahassee, FL, October 14, 2016.

COCA’s Amanda Karioth Thompson writes:
For more than 35,000 years, humans have relied on music and art to tell stories, celebrate momentous occasions, and connect to one another. We have a primal inclination to create and we are moved by the creations of others. Like our earliest ancestors, we continue to use these art forms to express abstract ideas, share information, reflect on our identity, and cope with life’s mysteries. Read More...

Art and music share an aesthetic language. Terms like rhythm, harmony, texture, improvisation, and tonality are equally descriptive in both disciplines. There is a synergy between these methods of creative expression and the Music as Muse exhibition will showcase how music can serve as inspiration for works of art.

If you can’t make it to the opening reception, feel free to see the exhibition anytime during the gallery hours. It will be on display at the City Hall Gallery from September 28-November 14, 2016.

This exhibition is one of more than a dozen curated by the Council on Culture & Arts for the Art in Public Places Program on behalf of the City of Tallahassee.
