News-Summer, 2014

(It’s almost) Summer Greetings, 2014

As the weather heats up this Memorial Day weekend, I also see other changes; the bold colors of summer are beginning to appear in my art. Here in Florida, hurricane season is just around the corner but for now, the beach breeze is just strong enough to cool us. The skies are the bluest with currents of stingrays underneath; reports of a tropical wave just hit the air waves. As usual by June, I have begun working on a hurricane themed cut paper piece and mimicking this time of year, this new piece is just beginning to take shape.

Happiest when I have several works in progress, this circular work below has been barely started but will become part of a new coral reef series when completed. Today I have worked to create structure on which I will place detail, cutting from papers I have painted.

Still fascinated and inspired by looking at a drop of the Gulf of Mexico’s salty water under a microscope, I am building paper sculptures which mimic tiny micro worlds. As I work on this piece, I plan to update my progress here on this news page.

Six of my paper assemblages are currently on display in a group exhibit at the Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture at the Delray Museum of Art and it is an honor to be showing with outstanding artists who also use paper for their medium. The exhibition has now opened and will run through August 24, 2014. For more information: http://delraycenterforthearts.org/index.php/component/k2/item/659-paper-as-art . Also I am happy to share a review that was recently published in the Palm Beach Post: http://www.pbpulse.com/news/entertainment/arts-theater/exhibit-features-paper-as-art/nf42K/
