DIATOMORAMAS<\/strong><\/p>\n

“In 1992, I created the first of what was to become\u00a0a body of work inspired by an ancient circular art form, the\u00a0mandala. Learn more about the series...<\/em>\" >Learn more about the series...<\/em><\/span>

Using Florida imagery, I named this series\u00a0Floridala<\/em>. To date, I have created 143 cut paper Floridalas; each very different from the other.<\/p>\n

Interested in microscopy, I stumbled upon the works of artists from the 1800’s who manipulated diatoms by using a single hair and a microscope to form\u00a0intricately patterned mandalas and\u00a0other designs. Thus, the tiniest of artworks were\u00a0created, viewed with the aid of a microscope. Combining experiences, I am creating\u00a0circular works\u00a0<\/em>based on diatoms\u00a0discovered in\u00a0local waters;\u00a0the\u00a0Diatomorama Series<\/em>\u00a0begins!”
