DIATOMORAMAS
“In 1992, I created the first of what was to become a body of work inspired by an ancient circular art form, the mandala. Learn more about the series...
Interested in microscopy, I stumbled upon the works of artists from the 1800’s who manipulated diatoms by using a single hair and a microscope to form intricately patterned mandalas and other designs. Thus, the tiniest of artworks were created, viewed with the aid of a microscope. Combining experiences, I am creating circular works based on diatoms discovered in local waters; the Diatomorama Series begins!”

All the images in the Diatomorama series are inspired by micrographs collected by the artist from the Apalachicola River and Bay Estuary. The piece (shown underway) is a watercolor cut paper assemblage.
These circular works are 25″ x 25″ watercolor cut paper assemblages.
